My husband spent four years in Croix on a job assignment (just got back to Texas this May) so I was able to enjoy the birds, and feed them also. Your beautiful pictures brought back beautiful memories.
I would like to add the humming birds I saw to my life list; but I was unable to identify them. There were huge by ruby throat standards, had a curved bill and were green. Do you know which type they are?
We've identified 2 species of hummingbirds; the Antillean Crested Hummingbird, which is the smaller type that build their nests on the wind chimes on our front porch. The other type, which I believe is what you were asking about, is called the Green-throated Carib. They're much larger and have very long, curved beaks. I'll add a photo of one and you can see if that's what you were seeing.

The nest is amazing--they certainly choose some interesting nesting material. You got some incredible shots.
Hi Jill,
The hummingbird nest is really amazing. It looks like glass in some of the pics. You have a great place for the hummers.
Love ya, Dad
